Markovic: There will be no instability

Podgorica, (MINA) – Prime Minister Dusko Markovic said that he has faith in the political and personal maturity of Democratic Front (DF) political leaders and that he is not concerned about the events that will take place following the delivery of the court decision in the attempted terrorism case.

Asked by the press, following the opening of the 4th Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region in Budva, whether he expects the destabilization of the country after the court decision’s delivery, scheduled for Thursday, he said that this is impossible.

Markovic remarked that Montenegro is not a country in which such conflicts are possible, not even in such situations.

“Not only because Montenegro is a stable country in which institutions function, in which each challenge can be solved by the institutions, regarding securing stability, security of individuals and the state, but because, regardless of the rhetoric we have heard and which is not pleasant, which seems confusing, I have faith in the responsibility of the DF political leaders”, said Markovic.

He added that DF, as the strongest opposition political power in Montenegro, bears, along with the authorities, responsibility for order and stability.

He stated that any expression of the lack of respect for court’s decisions and disagreements with the court proceedings is a pressure on the judiciary’s independence and its work.

Asked whether the level of readiness by certain state services and the protection of top state officials was raised in regard to the possible court’s decision, Markovic said that there is no state of emergency.

“There is no assessment that instability may occur in Montenegro, not even in such situations. The security services are performing their regular activities, officials are doing their job within their remit, with a security system operating regularly, so that there is no any kind of a state of emergency”, the Prime Minister said.

When asked by a Serbian journalist about the relations between the two countries, Markovic noted that the relations are good and that Montenegro does not respond to casual unfounded claims from Serbia.

Montenegro, according to him, has been pursuing a consistent policy, it is a country that spreads dialogue and tolerance in the region with everyone, and above all with Serbia.

Markovic said that Montenegro understands Serbia’s difficult heritage in resolving the Kosovo issue, and that it understand the displays of nervousness sometimes. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
