Investments of around €250 million expected

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting held at the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) that around €250 million worth of investments in agriculture and food industry were expected over the following four-year period, which was a reason to strengthen the competitiveness of this sector, and consequently boost the sale of domestic products.

The Board members of the PKCG Agriculture and Food Industry Association agreed on this occasion that the investments in agriculture, expected from the Agricultural Budget, international financial support and farmers, were encouraging.

“It is therefore necessary to strengthen the competitiveness of the sector, as it will have a direct positive effect on the trade in domestic produce. This is a must for local companies, but the limitations they are faced with in their operation make it difficult for them to achieve this goal,” the Board members concluded.

The limitations include commercial and financial pressure of powerful regional food producers, resulting in an inadequate positioning of domestic products in the market, the informal economy – especially during the summer season, difficulties in the collection of receivables, and long payment deadlines affecting the liquidity of farmers.

According to a press release issued by the PKCG, the entrepreneurs underscored that there were no subsidies in the pig farming, and that the sales of certain agricultural products were weak because of the absence of organized purchase.
