Podgorica, (MINA) – The Montenegrin police have broken up a cigarette smuggling ring via the Bar Duty Free Zone, pressing charges against 28 persons, including eight customs officers and two legal persons.
Ten persons have been arrested while another fourteen are still wanted, police officials told a press conference on Thursday.
Previously, four persons were prosecuted as part of the same operation.
Assistant Director of the Police Administration Enis Bakovic stated that the police have seized 2,540 packages of cigarettes, which were produced abroad and intended for black market.
According to Bakovic, eight customs officers are believed to have failed to perform their duties in order to secure personal financial gain.
