New National Security Strategy described as dynamic and good document

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Proposal of the National Security Strategy is a good and dynamic document and a solid basis for other regulations, which will improve the national defense system, military analyst Zoran Bukvic has stated.

“Compared to the 2008 Strategy, the proposal for the new National Security Strategy is taking full account of reality, it is a more comprehensive, more detailed and therefore better document,” Bukvic told Mina.

He underlined that the new strategic document introduces a new definition of security interests and identifies them clearly.

The Strategy, he explains, differentiates between three groups of security interests, vital, strategic and other important interest.

“The vital interests, first and foremost, refer to the protection of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Montenegro. The important thing is that an emphasis is placed on the protection of lives and property of citizens, safeguarding of democracy, rule of law and human rights and freedoms,” Bukvic said.

According to the analyst, Montenegro’s strategic interests include development of an efficient and sustainable national security system, prevention and suppression of the threats and challenges that may affect national security.

“The other important interests have been given a qualitatively new significance. An emphasis is placed on strengthening state institutions, independence, autonomy and efficiency of the judiciary and combating crime. Reference is also made to the strengthening of institutional capacities for the fight against money laundering, terrorist financing and corruption,” Bukvic stated.

The Parliament completed the hearing on Montenegro’s new national security strategy on Friday and the document will be put to vote in the coming days.
