Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Prime Minister Dusko Markovic has said that the Government achieved impressive results in the implementation of its economic policy, adding that the same pace would be kept next year.
At the New Year reception he hosted for representatives of the legislative, executive and judicial authorities, public figures and diplomatic corps, he said the public finance balances were much better in 2018.
“Compared with the last year, the revenues increased by €200 million, the deficit was cut in half, while there is much more money available for education, healthcare, science and agriculture,” said Markovic.
According to him, the tourist season has broken last year’s record, with the revenues exceeding €1 billion.
“Our economy saw a five percent growth in the third quarter, which is the third highest growth rate in Europe,” Markovic said, adding that foreign investments in the construction sector had increased by €138 million compared with 2017.
He believes that the development would continue at the same pace next year.
“This will be reflected in a higher living standard as early as at the end of the next year and certainly in early 2020,” said Markovic, adding that there would be more better paid jobs available.
He added that there would be more money available for pensions, while the social welfare would be distributed in a more balanced way.
According to a press release issued by the Government’s Public Relations Service, Markovic said that the Government would continue to focus on the sustainable and long-term economic growth based on the real economic parameters, which would strengthen the financial and economic stability of Montenegro.
