Podgorica, (MINA) – There can be no stability of Europe without a stable Balkans and that is why the EU needs reliable partners like Montenegro, President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani said at a meeting with Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic.
At Tajani’s invitation, Djukanovic visited Strasbourg, where he addressed the MEPs at the European Parliament’s regular session.
According to a press release from the Montenegrin President’s Office, during their one-on-one meeting, Tajani expressed his satisfaction that was able to host Djukanovic’s address at the European Parliament.
“Because, as he said, he is leading a country that is the first in line to join the European Union, he is a man with a vision, who knows very well the circumstances in the Western Balkans and is contributing to the stability of the region,” the press release stated.
By the same token, Tajani reportedly underlined the importance of Montenegro’s role in the EU enlargement process, regional prosperity and stability.
“There is no stability of Europe without the stability of the Balkans. That is why we need reliable partners, countries like Montenegro,” the EP President stated.
Tajani also hosted a lunch in Djukanovic’s honor, which was attended by the EP Vice-Presidents, representatives of eight EP groups, EU Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn, Chair of the EP Delegation for Relations with Montenegro David Martin and Juliana Bogner Strauss, Austrian Federal Minister, on behalf of the EU Presidency.
