Serbia has responsibility to act in accordance with extradition request

Podgorica, (MINA) – By sending the request for Svetozar Marovic’s extradition, Montenegrin Justice Ministry has imposed another international responsibility to Serbia, which now, besides the red Interpols wanted notice after Marovic, has a responsibility to act in accordance with Montenegro’s request for his extradition.

Dean of the Faculty of Legal Sciences Velimir Rakocevic said that, adding that the Ministry’s decision to request from Serbia to enable Svetozar and Milos Marovic serving their prison sentences, shows that Montenegro acted in accordance with the European and international standards.

“With this good tactics, Montenegrin Justice Ministry additionally intensified international pressure on Serbia to finally extradite Svetozar Marovic, as well as prevent statute of limitations from running out in Milos Marovic’s case”, Rakocevic told Mina.

He explained that the standard procedure in all cases of extradition from Serbia demand sending an extradition request, after the national organs of Montenegro are informed that a person Montenegro claims has been arrested in Serbia.

“It is well known that in Svetozar Marovic’s case Serbian police acted against the assumed commitments, failing to arrest the wanted person and extradite him to Montenegro during a longer period of time”, Rakocevic said.
