Rakocevic: Boycott of parliament is insulting to citizens

Podgorica, (MINA) – The call of the protest organizers for the boycott of the Parliament and all elections is not logical and sustainable, and the boycott of the parliament is insulting to the citizens and disrespectful to Montenegro, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) stated.

The participants of the “97000- resist!” protest called on the opposition parties to leave the parliament and boycott all the elections until their requests are met.

DPS MP Nikola Rakocevic dubbed such calls illogical.

“They are not logically based and sustainable, and the boycott of the parliament is insulting to the citizens and disrespectful to Montenegro. How else can we describe ignoring the responsibilities in the Parliament and regularly collecting all the benefits and salaries every month”, Rakocevic told Mina.

According to him, DPS has no dilemma that those are political and not the civic protests, and that the opposition parties are hiding behind this civic concept.

“Of course they have only one goal – change of the current regime and reaching power”, said Rakocevic, adding that it is a completely legitimate goal, but that requesting it without democratic elections in the street is not legitimate.

He believes that the institutions of the system must agree upon all the conditions for future parliamentary elections.

“The requests heard in the protests are very political and look more like an ultimatum and they, of course, are out of question. If the requests become rational and logically sustainable, they will find a partner for dialogue in DPS”, Rakocevic added.Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
