Police will no longer be part of Interior Ministry

Podgorica, (MINA) – Under the proposed amendments to the Law on Interior Affairs, which will be considered at the Parliament session starting on Wednesday, the Montenegrin police will no longer be an organizational unit within the Ministry of Interior.

The purpose of this legislative change is to align the law with the legislation on state administration and civil servants, with a view to improving the efficiency and functionality of the Police Administration.

The Law on State Administration introduces a new system of public administration, which no longer recognizes different authorities within ministries.

“Having in mind that so far the Police Administration has been a body within the Ministry of Interior, the amendments of this law are necessary in order to establish an optimum relationship between the two authorities,” the explanatory note to bill says.
