Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Office of the President of Montenegro, the latest allegation that President Djukanovic’s ‘company’, which was established only on paper in 2006, had been set up for the purpose of participating in privatization of Meljine hospital is absolutely not true.
“Intention to create media sensation in a TV show and by subsequent comments, mentioning the existence of Milo Djukanovic’s ‘company’, which was established only on paper in 2006 when he held no public office, and which carried out no legal or business activities, proves what is already known for those in charge of the smear campaign against the President of Montenegro – that they do not have a single valid argument to support their false accusations,” says a press release issued by the President’s Office.
President of Atlas Group Dusko Knezevic said that Djukanovic had established the Cyprus-based offshore company Vagor Investment Ltd in order to become a formal co-owner of Meljine hospital and the land covering an area of 50,000 square metres.
“The latest malicious allegation of the runaway tycoon that this ‘company’ was established for the purpose of participating in the privatization of Meljine hospital is absolutely untrue and unworthy of any comment,” says the President’s Information Service.
The press release says that the editor of daily newspaper Dan Nikola Markovic was wrong when he said in the same TV show that Djukanovic was obliged to report that he established this company when he had left the public office in 2006.
“The Law on Conflict of Interest, which came into effect on 30 June 2004, contained no provision that a public official is obliged to submit a report on their property to the Commission for Prevention of the Conflict of Interest, for 12 months after he left the office, as claimed by Markovic,” the press release says.
