Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro’s results when it comes to EU integration are encouraging, but work in all areas needs to be intensified in the coming period in order to achieve the key national interest – membership of the EU.
This was heard on Monday at a meeting of the College for EU Negotiations, chaired by Prime Minister Dusko Markovic.
The Prime Minister stressed that the good results in the EU accession process must not be an excuse for relaxation.
“On the contrary, we need to step up the efforts to produce more visible results in the fight against corruption and organized crime and to execute our commitments with a view to closing several chapters in the EU accession talks. I expect from the entire negotiation structure maximum determination and responsibility in meeting the commitments and deadlines,” Markovic stated.
Considering the state of affairs in the area of the rule of law, the College welcomed the results made in this area, while underlining in particular the success in the fight against organized crime and fight against human trafficking.
“In 2019, emphasis will be placed on further judicial reform and on creating a better environment for the work of media and for resolving attacks on journalists and media property,“ the press release stated.
