Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Prime Minister Dusko Markovic has said that there are no outstanding issues related to the loan extended by Exim Bank for the construction of the Bar-Boljare motorway, and that there is no delay in its repayment, since it has not started yet.
“The loan repayment starts in July of 2021, and it will take 14 years with the annual installments of US$66.4,” Markovic said at the Parliament, answering MPs’ questions.
Answering the question of Andrija Popovic of the Liberal Party concerning the speculations about a high public debt and the risk of the so-balled “debt bondage” ensuing from this loan, Markovic said that this issue was related to the presence of Chinese capital in Montenegro.
“The issue of impact of the China Exim Bank’s loan on our public finance is often raised publicly, with insinuations that there are difficulties in loan repayment and conspiracy theories about the land used as collateral, etc,” Markovic said, adding that none of these were true.
He said that around US$655 of the Chinese loan had been withdrawn, adding that the completion of the first motorway section was expected during the next year. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
