Podgorica, (MINA) – The fact that there are no applicable planning documents for the summit of the Rumija Mountain means that no construction or other intervention of any kind is allowed in that location, Prime Minister Dusko Markovic told Metropolitan of the Serbian Orthodox Church Amfilohije.
In a letter to Amfilohije, Markovic said that he was more concerned by the way in which the Metropolitan is dividing Montenegro, striking at the very roots and essence of the Montenegrin cultural, multiethnic and religious cohabitation, than by whether or not the ‘tin structure’ will continue to exist on the top of Rumija.
Recently, Amfilohije sent an open letter to the Prime Minister, asking the government and the line ministry to allow for the construction and stone-coating of the church in Rumija.
Markovic replied by voicing hope that the Metropolitan will raise his voice against violations of the law and disrespect for Montenegrin state institutions, even if such actions came from his close aides.
The Prime Minister noted that Amfilohije has allowed himself to classify ethnic Albanians to suitable and unsuitable, to those who are welcome to Rumija and those who are not.
Markovic remarked that a metropolitan should not be doing that, arguing that such actions undermine the cornerstones and the very essence of the Montenegrin society and the values on which Montenegro has survived and for which it is recognized internationally.
“Stay away from that, perhaps the greatest of all Montenegrin values. Because I am more concerned by the ease and persistence with which you have been dividing Montenegro, instead of uniting it for the past nearly three decades, than by whether or not the tin structure which you call a church will remain on the top of Rumija or not. As I already said, it will stay there if the law allows that, and it will not stay there if there are no legal grounds for that. There is no other way,” Markovic stated.
