Montenegro to join EU before 2025, says Nikolic

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro will work together with EU institutions, meet its commitments and join the European family of nations before the timeframe noted in the new EU Strategy, Chair of the Committee for International Relations and Expatriates Andrija Nikolic has stated.

A Montenegrin Parliament delegation, headed by Nikolic and Chair of the Defense and Security Committee Obrad Stanisic, took part in an inter-parliamentary conference about the common foreign and security policy, which took place in Vienna, as part of the Austrian EU Presidency.

According to a press release from the Parliament’s PR Service, Nikolic said that Montenegro has entered the final stage of the EU accession process at the time when the Union is dealing with serious internal challenges.

“In Montenegro we understand very well the EU’s need to conduct internal reforms. However, we are confident that there is no better perspective for the EU than a full unity of its member states and further enlargement to the candidate countries, and that those processes can be managed simultaneously,” Nikolic said.
