Podgorica, (MINA) – Italy’s support to European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of the region is significant for overcoming the several-decade long lagging of the Western Balkans behind the developed Europe, president Milo Djukanovic remarked.
During the meeting with Italian Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta, he said that her visit is an important incentive to improvement of the relations between the two countries.
“We are aware of the missed opportunities in the close history as well as interior crisis in the EU, but still have hope that the only perspective for the region is in integration, and for Europe to continue uniting and strengthen its global competitiveness”, said he.
Djukanovic emphasized that Montenegro is a reliable partner to NATO and the EU, and expressed special gratitude to Italy for supporting Montenegro’s NATO membership.
The Minister emphasized that Italy remains with Montenegro on its EU path.
She said that Italy’s position towards the Balkans is clear, both in regard of support to the WB countries’ integration, and in regard to fulfilling the membership criteria.
