Finland strongly supports Montenegro’s EU integration

Podgorica, (MINA) – Finland is a strong supporter of Montenegro’s European integration, it was heard during a visit to Finland by Montenegrin Foreign Minister Srdjan Darmanovic.

According to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, Darmanovic met on Thursday with his Finnish counterpart Timo Soini.

“Finland’s strong support to Montenegro’s EU integration process was confirmed during the talks, which focused on the forthcoming Finish Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of this year,” the press release stated.

Darmanovic and Soini are said to have underlined the importance of the EU enlargement policy in the context of further strengthening of stability and regional development, while underlining the importance of respecting the principle of individual merit-based progress in the EU accession process.

“Both sides underlined their interest in further strengthening economic cooperation, especially in the areas of energy and tourism,” the press release said.

Darmanovic said that he was pleased with the level of interest from Finnish companies to invest in Montenegro and encouraged them to participate in the implementation of capital projects in the country.
