Podgorica, (MINA) – The assessments of the European Commission of the situation in the country, above all of the Envelope Affair, as well as the reaction of the national organs in regard to the case of illegal financing of the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) affected the results of CEDEM’s poll, Politikon Network stated.
According to CEDEM’s survey, which was presented on Thursday, the citizens’ trust in all institutions is in decline, support to DPS and the Democratic Montenegro suffered a mild decline in comparison to December last year, and average ratings for all politicians are low.
Director of Politicon Network Jovana Marovic said that, considering the timeframe in which the poll was carried out, it could be said that the results were affected by the assessments by the European Commission on the situation in the country.
“Above all, the Envelope Affair, as well as the reaction of the national organs in the case of illegal financing of the ruling DPS”, Marovic told Mina.
She reiterated that the EC in its annual report indicated the overpresence of corruption, politicized institutions, unsatisfactory conditions for organizing of elections, but also that the citizens trust in the electoral process also depends on fast and efficient resolving of the Envelope Affair.
“This affair means continuation of irresponsibility, lack of transparency, and careless behavior by the national institutions, as well as postponing of the necessary cuts and inexistence of the commitment to eradicate undemocratic practices”, Marovic stated.
Marovic reminded about the recent results of the Balkan Barometer survey according to which 59% of the Montenegrin citizens does not believe that the law is equally applied to all.
She believe that the fall of support to DPS can be explained with the lack of the activities at field, since more than a year is left until the parliamentary elections, adding that they would be probably intensified in the forthcoming period, stimulated by these results.
Marovic on the other hand added that the verdict in the failed coup case was reached in the period between the two public opinion polls, which shook the Montenegrin public and affected the opinions of the citizens, and thus the rise in support to DF can be explained.
She believes that bit lower support to the Democrats in comparison to December last year could be linked to recomposing at the national political scene, but also media war with DF.
