Podgorica, (MINA) – The Constitutional Court is the only one authorized to evaluate the constitutionality of acts and individual decisions, Prime Minister Dusko Markovic has said.
He said that in Danilovgrad, commenting on the decision on sending to prison Democratic Front MPs Nebojsa Medojevic and Milan Knezevic.
“We all need to let the Constitutional Court decide on such initiatives and say whether it is a constitutional decision or not. The Appellate Court acted under the authority given by the law and we cannot speak of an illegal decision, but only debate whether this decision is constitutional or not”, Markovic said.
Asked if the decision on sending two MPs to prison had effect on the dialogue between the government and the opposition, and if it could have been different so that this situation would have been prevented, Markovic said that those are questions in the authority of judiciary, and not politicians and a PM.
Markovic agreed that this disturbed the good environment that was established in the Parliament through the formation of a working group that aimed to work on changes in electoral legislation.
He remarked that he expected that there will be a solution to this situation, but added that everyone needs to learn from this situation, politicians and lawyers and citizens.
“One cannot allow himself, it is not allowed in developed democracies, to accuse someone for the most serious or the worst crimes and do not offer evidence for it”, said Markovic.
“You are not accusing Milivoje Katnic as a citizen, you are accusing Milivoje Katnic as a state prosecutor, that is, the institution of Montenegro that runs a specific case, one of the most difficult cases in the legal practice of Montenegro”, the Prime Minister stressed.
Asked to comment on Medojevic’s remarks that Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pazin is behind the latest events, Markovic said that it is a politician who is prone to making such allegations that cannot be backed up with facts, adding that the government is not going to deny his allegations.
