Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a round table in Podgorica that a priority section of the Bar-Boljare motorway will contribute to the development of northern Montenegro and improve the connections with other countries in the region, although the citizens still don’t know how much its construction will cost.
Executive Director of Monteput Jonuz Mujevic said at the round table of organized by the Network for Affirmation of NGO Sector (MANS) that deadline for the opening of the motorway was September 2020.
“The motorway should have been finished in May 2019, but there will be certain delay because of the problems with the designing, harmonization with European documentation and hydro-geological explorations,” said Mujevic.
He said that the negotiations on annex to the agreement would be finalized in the next several days.
“There have been certain difficulties in the delivery of works. Monteput expected that the construction works will be carried out at a faster pace,” said Mujevic.
He said that this was the most demanding motorway section, which would have 20 bridges and ten tunnels, while its altitude would range between 50 and 1,100 metres.
Mujevic believes that the motorway would result in many benefits, primarily in terms of a more balanced regional development, better connections between the southern and northern regions of the country and improvement of tourism and infrastructure.
The round table “Bar-Boljare Motorway – Four Years Later” was organized by MANS within the framework of the project funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro.
MANS Public Finance Coordinator Ines Mrdovic said that the costs of construction of the priority motorway section would exceed €1 billion.
“The motorway construction started on the basis of a concept design, rather than the main design. It is now uncertain how much this delay of one and a half years will increase the project management costs,” said Mrdovic. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
