China wants to see Montenegro’s progress towards EU

Podgorica, (MINA) – China respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries of the region and developmental path the Montenegrin nation chose, and wants to see Montenegro’s persistent progress towards the EU, said Chinese ambassador to Montenegro Liu Jin.

In an interview to Mina he said that China understands efforts of the countries of the region to join the EU, and added that China is ready to continue developing friendship with every country of the region.

According to Jin, the Chinese people is ready and can understand the choice of the Montenegrin people “since China’s foreign policy is independent and peaceful and insists that all the countries are equal no matter their size”.

He said that China and the Balkans’ countries, including Montenegro, are traditionally friendly countries, and that their friendship commenced during the former Yugoslavia period.

Speaking about cultural cooperation between the two countries, he reiterated that earlier this year a Chinese Culture Week took place in Podgorica, and that Institute Confucius has been opened at the University of Montenegro in 2015 and has already opened 48 classrooms of the Chinese language in the territory of Montenegro.

Jin remarked that rich cooperator in the area of education between the two countries is being developed in the form of partnership between the Montenegrin and Chinese universities, and scholarship to studying at the Chinese universities for about 20 students from Montenegro every year.

Furthermore, Jin said, cooperation in infrastructure, energy, tourism and other areas also reached positive progress.

He emphasized that there are differences in history, culture, social mechanism and economic construction between Montenegro and China, but that those do not present a barrier for development of the partnership between the two countries.

Jin announced that journalists’ visits to China will be continued with the goal of offering to the Montenegrin journalists an opportunity to see China and present it to the Montenegrin citizens the way they saw it.
