Podgorica, (MINA) – The Agency for Electronic Media (AEM) has warned the media that, when reporting about accidents or domestic tragedies, they must respect the right to privacy of the victims’ families and other persons affected by such events, adding that all the media outlets that violate those will be penalized.
The AEM issued a statement in relation to the recent case of a tragic death of a child which has received a lot of coverage in the media.
“Since every breach of privacy must be justified by verifiable public interest, and especially in the case of minors, we urge the electronic media and news portal to observe the right to privacy of the family that has experienced this tragic loss,” the statement said.
The AEM underlines that electronic media and news portals are not allowed to publish information that reveal children’s identity or details about their domestic or private life.
“Without questioning the public interest in reporting about the tragic event, the AEM cannot justify the revelation of the identity or details from the domestic and private life of the child, which is why we will penalize all the electronic media that violate those standards,” the statement concludes.
