Podgorica, (MINA) – Along the Montenegrin path towards the EU lie more demanding challenges than when it opened the negotiations, and the state must start meeting legal requirements, said program, assistant in the Civic Alliance Aleksandra Vukcevic.
She reiterated that in seven years, Montenegro has reached approximately half of the process, while in the same period Croatia completed the whole process of integration.
“The state must start fulfilling legal requirements which it tried to introduce to its legislation in the previousyears, so that it would be in line with European one”, Vukcevic told Mina.
In order not to reduce the integration process to ticking off requirements from the action plans, she stated that it is necessary to inform and make public more interested in initiating dialogue and proposing solutions.
Besides the achieved progress, according to her, many challenges that Montenegro must face in order to meet European Commission’s recommendations remain.
“In particular regarding adopting the standards for operational procedures for financial investigations in cases of organized crime, terrorism, money laundering and serious cases of corruption, as well as undertaking measures to start those investigations simultaneously with criminal investigations”, Vukcevic explained.
She emphasized that in terms of fight against organized crime Montenegro still has not reached any concrete results, and that, in terms of money laundering, there is not a single final verdict.
Considering that Montenegro is one of the transit countries for migrants and refugees, Vukcevic said that capacities for facing the growing problems in that area must be strengthened.
She said that the EC Report for this year brings what citizens of Montenegro already know.
“It only confirms that passivity is still present as well as lack of political will for solving challenges and problems which appear year by year, because of which the institutions that for seven years of negotiations have not met the basic requirements must go through serious staff changes”, said Vukcevic.
