Brajovic: Slovenia is role model to Montenegro

Podgorica, (MINA) – Slovenia was a role model to Montenegro on its path toward NATO, as it is now in the EU accession process, said Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajovic during his official visit to Ljubljana.

According to the Parliament’s press release, Brajovic and his Slovenian counterpart Dejan Zidan outlined the importance of the meeting, and discussing the topics in the areas of parliamentary cooperation and exchange of opinions about the key aspects of bilateral relations, regional events, future of the EU and the enlargement policy.

Brajovic stated that Slovenia knows very well the situation in the Western Balkans.

“We observed very carefully the European Parliament elections. I am sure that Slovenian MPs, alike many of our supporters and friends in the EP, take care that WB enlargement process remains in the list of priorities of the new EP assembly and new European Commission”, said Brajovic.

Zidan said that in its European Commission’s last report, in regard to the rule of law, the EU noted that Montenegro is making progress.

He expressed wish that the accession process would end soon, since, as he stated, it must be in the EU’s interest to have as many WB countries as possible among its member states.

During the meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Marjan Sarec it was once again emphasized that Montenegro and Slovenia have friendly and substantive cooperation that should be additionally improved, in particular in the area of economy.

In the meeting with Foreign Minister Miro Cerar it was agreed that the two friendly countries should keep expand their ties.

He remarked that Slovenia will continue supporting Montenegro in its EU bid.
