Podgorica, (MINA) – Pro-European orientation is the most reliable mechanism for maintaining stability in the Western Balkans and overcoming the significant backwardness in relation to the developed Europe, President Milo Djukanovic has stated.
According to a press release from the President’s Information Service, Djukanovic hosted a visit for the President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro.
Djukanovic has said that he is satisfied with the quality of relations between Montenegro and Austria, which is encouraged by the dynamic top-level political dialogue.
He thanked Austria for supporting Montenegro’s European integration and for the committed attitude towards the region.
The Montenegrin President underlined that Montenegro is working hard to implement reforms, in order to become part of the European community.
Djukanovic remarked that the enlargement process requires full attention of the EU, adding that a united Europe is the best contribution to the consolidation of the Union.
Sobotka confirmed Austria’s unwavering support for the accession of Montenegro and the region to the EU, arguing that this position is based on shared history, the EU’s peace project and the economic competitiveness of a united Europe.
