Public debt growth is a common problem in the region

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at today’s debate in Podgorica that all countries in the region have seen an increase in public debt because of their weak fiscal discipline and the absence of mid-term management plans, and that stimulation of private rather than public sector could spur development.

According to Sanja Madzarevic Sujster of the World Bank, the growth of public debt has been seen across the whole region, while the countries lack a mid-term focus.

“The public debt has increased in all countries, which are in the state of high volatility and have weak fiscal discipline. The region has a potential, if all citizens provide an impetus,” Madzarevic Sujster said at a debate on public debt in the region, organized by the regional coalition Balkan Monitoring Public Finances.

The debate was organized within the framework of the project “CSOs as Equal Partners in Monitoring of Public Finance”.

Madzarevic Sujster reminded that the countries in the region had invested in motorways, which were the projects with long-term return on investment.
