Podgorica, (MINA) – This year, the Montenegrin police have seized 3.25 tons of drugs, while registering fewer crimes than last year, the police stated following the Police Administration College meeting on Wednesday.
Minister of Interior Mevludin Nuhodzic and Director of the Police Administration Veselin Veljovic organized a regular extended meeting of the Police Administration College at the police camp in Zlatica, where they considered the results of police work in 2018.
The College noted that the security situation in Montenegro is stable and that the results of police work have contributed to the evident rise in public confidence in the police force.
The Interior Minister and the Director of the Police Administration praised the performance of traffic police, while noting that the number of road deaths in 2018 fell by 27%.
Out of 14 killings committed this year, the police solved nine, while making every effort to investigate the remaining cases.
“This year, officers of the Crime Police Unit solved two killings committed in previous years,” the Police Administration has stated in a statement.
This statement also recalls the success of the international operation, initiated by the Montenegrin Police Administration, which resulted in the seizure of 20 tons of hashish in the Italian territorial waters worth €65 million, which is believed to have been intended for terrorist financing.
For this effort, the statement explains, the Montenegrin police was officially commended by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
