Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Compared with the previous quarter, the number of working people in Montenegro decreased by 0.9 percent in the first quarter, while it saw a 4.5 percent year-on-year increase.
According to Monstat, there were 276,600 active citizens in Montenegro in the first quarter, 235,100 of whom were employed. Compared with the previous quarter, the number unemployed people decreased by 8.6 percent at the end of Q1, while it decreased by 4.2 percent year on year.
“A total of 224,500 people were inactive in this period, 3.4 percent more than in the previous quarter, and 3.1 percent fewer compared with the same period of 2018” the Statistical Office says in a press release.
According to a workforce survey conducted by Monstat, the activity rate was at 55.2 percent in this year’s first quarter, the employment rate reached 46.9 percent, the unemployment rate was at 15 percent, while the inactivity rate was at 44.8 percent.
The Statistical Office says that the survey was based on a sample of over 2,000 households on the territory of Montenegro, adding that it was carried out between October and December last year.
