Montenegro’s biggest challenge is tackling corruption

Podgorica, (MINA) – On its EU accession path Montenegro needs to address numerous challenges, first and foremost the rule of law, media freedom and fight against corruption, German Ambassador in Podgorica Robert Weber has stated.

In an interview with Dan, his first since taking office, the Ambassador said that media freedom and rule of law are the necessary preconditions for membership in the European family of nations.

“For the European perspective it is necessary to face the issues in the area of the rule of law, media freedom and freedom of speech. Unsolved killings always represent a difficult burden for those affected, including family members, friends of victims, but also the security authorities. This does not apply only to the cases of attacks on journalists, but in general,” Weber said.

 

He remarked that during the EU accession talks Montenegro has already made significant achievements.
