Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegro will receive additional €68.6 million in grants from the European Union and bilateral donors of the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) for four projects focusing on the transport and environmental protection, and for development of two more projects.
These funds have been approved at a meeting of the WBIF Steering Committee organized in Luxembourg by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
According to a press release issued by the General Secretariat of the Government, the additional grants have been awarded under the fourth call for investment projects and the 20th call for project development by bilateral donors within the framework of the Berlin Process.
The press release says that €42.1 million will be allocated for the construction of a priority part of the Budva bypass, adding that the total value of this project will exceed €188 million.
In addition, the EU has approved a €16.3 million grant for the development of railway transport, to finance part of the project worth €40 million.
“Apart from the investment projects in the field of transport, €7.7 million has been approved for the strengthening of infrastructure in the field of environmental protection,” the General Secretariat says.
In terms of financial support for development of projects, €1.3 million has been approved for the preparation of documentation for revitalization of a rail line between Podgorica and the border with Albania, and €1.2 million for development of the Mojkovac prison project.
The Deputy Chief Negotiator and National IPA Coordinator, Ivana Glisevic Djurovic, said that, given that the calls had been open to all Western Balkan countries, the fact that Montenegro had received most funds confirmed of the Government and administration had capacity to plan investments and prepare projects in line with EU requirements.
