Montenegro must serve as model for environmental protection

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro must serve a model for environmental protection in the Balkans, especially in the area of waste management, representatives of the NGO Zero Waste Montenegro have stated, adding that the government should have been more ambitious with the policy goals.

“We can’t say that we are satisfied with the results that the government has achieved so far in meeting the waste management objectives stated under Chapter 27, which refers to environment and climate change. We believe that the government should have been more ambitious when it comes to the measures prescribed by the law,” the NGO told Mina.

They believe that most of the single-use plastic products should be banned and that more incentives should be included when it comes to recycling.

“On the other hand, municipalities should be required to set more ambitious goals, but they should also be given more funds for incentives. Tourism is Montenegro’s key industry and pollution is not only destroying our nature, it is also destroying tourism,” the NGO argues.
