Podgorica, (MINA) – The vision of the modern Montenegro is focused on stability and prosperity of its citizens, Prime Minister Dusko Markovic said at the UN General Assembly session in New York on Friday.
He remarked that, since the restoration of its independence, Montenegro has progressed rapidly on the course of building a state based on the highest democratic values.
Markovic noted that Montenegro remains strongly committed to the policy and goals of sustainable development, that it supports the global efforts towards disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and that it advocates stronger prevention of ongoing conflicts.
He recalled that Montenegro is NATO’s newest member state, since last year.
“NATO membership has been a strong encouragement for further strengthening of the rule of law based on the highest democratic values. But at the same time we are working hard on economic reforms, which resulted in the economic growth rates above 4.5 per cent last year and in the first half of this year,” Markovic said.
Those measures, he said, based on sustainable development will ensure higher living standards in the longer term.
