Markovic: Electoral legislation can be aligned by end of year

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Democratic Party of Socialists’ (DPS) offer to the opposition is open, said Prime Minister Dusko Markovic and remarked that electoral legislation can be aligned by the end of the year.

He reiterated that the Parliament is working on electoral legislation in line with the initial agreement between the opposition and the government, which was later given up by the opposition.

“Electoral laws in the part of the working group that remained working are practically finished. I hope that in the meantime we can achieve partnership with the opposition in the working group and continue with drafting electoral laws, and pass them during the fall session”, said Markovic.

He said that he was sure that aligned electoral legislation can be achieved by the end of the year.

“2020 is the electoral year and not 2019. There is no reason for concern, alarm and misunderstanding”, said Markovic answering to the questions of the journalists following the Bijelo Polje Business Forum.

Asked to comment on the statements by former Pljevlja municipality president Mirko Djacic that “DPS officials coalesced with their chairs”, and that this party is ready for overhaul, the Prime Minister said that DPS is made of people who are unified by ideology, political and economy program.

“Djacic was in our political team for a long time, he is not one of the younger generation of politicians to be in a position to criticize DPS and its leadership”, said Markovic.

Asked if he tried to talk with Djacic to stay at his position, Markovic said that he talked with him intensively.

He said that political amnesia is very much present in Montenegro, with Djacic also.
