Life-partnership law expected to be passed

Podgorica, (MINA) – The LGBTIQ community and international public expect that the law on life-partnership of same sex persons will be passed this week, said president of Queer Montenegro steering committee Danijel Kalezic.

In a statement for PR Center he said that responsibility for passing the law is not only on the ruling coalition, but also the opposition and independent MPs.

“We expect that the law will be passed during this parliament’s session. The political will in regard to this law of a majority of the ruling coalition constituents and the civic part of opposition is, in accordance with the information we have at this moment, strong and unambiguous”, said Kalezic.

He said that the support is expected, above all, from all civic and democracy oriented political parties and MPs.

“The responsibility for passing this law is not only on the ruling coalition. Important share of responsibility is on the opposition and independent MPs and we expect their unambiguous support for this law”, said Kalezic.

He added that passing of this law will place Montenegro among progressive countries in the international community.

Kalezic said that passing the life-partnership law will enable LGBTIQ community to live dignifiedly.

If the parliament would fail to pass this law, he said that it would slow down the entire process of democratization and EU integration of Montenegrin society and downgrade the concept of human rights and freedoms.
