Podgorica, (MINA) – As the youngest member, Montenegro strongly advocates for open door policy and presence of NATO in the region, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srdjan Darmanovic said during the visit to Washington.
On the first day of the working visit to the USA, he met with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker.
It was stated that bilateral and allied cooperation within NATO is very good and importance of dynamics of maintaining high level political contacts was underlined.
They exchanged views on the current events in the Western Balkans, modalities for strengthening of mutual trust and further stabilization of regional opportunities.
Montenegrin head of diplomacy had in Washington separate meetings with members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
During the meeting with Congressman Eliot Engel, Darmanovic said that the regional cooperation is one of foreign policy priorities, while Congressman Doug Lamborn praised constructive engagement, active role and commitment of Montenegro to allied goals and activities.
Darmanovic also met with vice-president of NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mike Turner and Senator Ron Johnson.
