Holocaust and genocide crimes must never happen again

Podgorica, (MINA) – The remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust is a reminder for everyone, both state authorities and individuals, to make every effort to prevent antisemitism and all forms of racial and religious hatred, Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic has stated.

In a statement marking 27 January, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the President expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the millions of Jewish victims, as well as the victims of Slavic, Roma and other ethnicities, disabled persons, homosexuals and all those who were killed during the Second World War solely because of their ethnic or religious affiliation or differences.

He said that in times when European societies are facing the growing pressure from forces of populism, nationalism, xenophobia and intolerance and when the highest values of equality are constantly threatened, joint efforts must be stronger than ever.

“To this end, I strongly believe that education continues to be the most powerful weapon for strengthening democratic values and raising awareness that, as the Universal Declaration puts it, we are all born free and equal in dignity and rights,” Djukanovic stated.
