Djukanovic: Montenegro committed to integration processes

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro is committed to integration processes, said president of the country Milo Djukanovic, expressing belief that, with support of its neighbors and other EU member states, it would become the next EU member.

Djukanovic met on Tuesday with the representatives of the Conference of Young Parliamentarians’ participants, organized by the Parliament of Montenegro and the Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Committee.

Committee chair Andrija Nikolic expressed satisfaction with high turnout of young parliamentarians from 20 countries, which confirms the interest and attention their countries pay to the Western Balkans region and Montenegro.

Djukanovic said that presence of a large number of MPs of the EU and Western Balkans countries at the Conference is acknowledgment to the organizers, the Parliament, but also Montenegro which is a committed promoter of European values in the Balkans.

It is stated that Djukanovic highlighted obvious consequences of too long absence of the region from the EU and its system of values, economic and democratic falling behind, which generated permanent instability in the region.

He stressed the importance of preserving the vision of united Europe, which young generations of politicians understand best.

Djukanovic reiterated the importance of the Berlin process to infrastructure, energy and IT connectedness of the region with Europe, with the goal of its developing simultaneously with fulfilling the membership requirements.

“It is important Europe shows full readiness for further development of the region”, said Djukanovic.

The representatives of the European parliaments conveyed high scores for Montenegro’s achievements on the EU integration path and full support of their countries to continuation of the enlargement process.
