Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic met with leader of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis in the Vatican on Monday.
According to a press release from the President’s Office, Djukanovic’s visit to the Vatican is a confirmation of excellent bilateral relations between the Holy See and Montenegro, which are deeply in the history and tradition of mutual respect, establishing in the 1886 Concordat.
“Following the restoration of its independence, Montenegro is recognized as a country that attaches special importance to preserving and developing inter-ethnic relations and religious tolerance, cooperation and solidarity. As such, Montenegro has renewed its relations with the Holy See through the Basic Agreement, which governs the most important aspects of bilateral relations and the status of the Catholic community in our country,” the press release explains.
At the Apostolic Palace, Djukanovic met first with the Pope and then with Holy See State Secretary Pietro Parolin.
