Disinformation dubbed problem of whole society

Budva, (MINA) – Small countries, such are the Western Balkans countries, are in advantage regarding possibility of strengthening resistance to disinformation capacities, said Senior Fellow of the Institute for Statecraft Nicolas de Pedro.

Speaking at the panel discussion “Age of Disinformation: Learning Resilience and Living with Lies”, he said that media and social networks have created a new “media ecosystem”.

He added that disinformation is not a problem of two or three media outlets but of the whole world, and that some countries, such as Russia, are using media ecosystem which exists now.

NATO Senior Officer for Russia and WB Robert Pszczel said that disinformation that various actors produce are often connected and that the awareness about this problem is just being raised.

Deputy director of the European Excellence Center for Countering Hybrid Threats Arnis Snore said that media should respect regulations and be held responsible if publish lies.

Global Focus Center Program Director Rufin Zamfir stated that disinformation is just a tip of an iceberg, while Open Society Foundation in Bratislava project coordinator Tomas Krissak said that disinformation is constantly being produced and that international cooperation is of utmost importance for countering them.
