Activities in the energy sector boost economic development

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulic, all activities the Government has carried out in energy sector over the previous two years are aimed at boosting the economic development, which is the only way to ensure better jobs and higher wages.

“Only a healthy and market-oriented Elektroprivreda (EPCG) can work to the benefit of our citizens. Only the management that works well to the benefit of the company it runs, without flirting with the politics and populism, can work to the benefit of the country and its citizens,” Sekulic said at a parliamentary hearing.

At a meeting of the Parliament’s Economy, Finance and Budget Committee, she said that the Government’s intention was to make sure that every citizen enjoys the benefits of the energy sector.

Sekulic reminded that Montenegro was the only country in the region than had opened the negotiating chapter on energy and the only country that had no open cases of violation of rights in the field of energy.

“The Law on Energy clearly prescribes all obligations, aimed at making sure that the companies follow the market rules. Our goal is to pass on a healthy and functional energy system to the future generations,” said Sekulic.

The hearing was requested by the MPs of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the Social Democrats (SD).

EPCG had adopted a decision on an increase in electricity prices as of 1 March, but the price hike will be postponed by one month.

EPCG will introduce four tariff models, and the consumers will be able to choose among the basic, blue, red or green model.
