Podgorica, (MINA) – Cooperating witness in the case of the failed coup on the election day Aleksandar Sindjelic has arrived to Montenegro and requested political asylum from the Ministry of the Interior, Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic has confirmed.
During a press conference Katnic explained that Sindjelic gave a statement to the Security Center Rozaje in which he requested political asylum “due to serious persecution by certain structures in Serbia”.
He added that Sindjelic was forced to run away exclusively due to his testifying in front of the court in Montenegro.
“I believe that this country and the civilized society will give answers to that and resolve that problem in accordance with the law”, said Katnic.
According to him, Sindjelic entered Montenegro illegally on Monday morning and requested to speak with the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
He added that more detailed information should be requested from the competent ministry.
Sindjelic is a cooperating witness in the trial against the 14 accused for the attempted terrorism on the day of parliamentary elections in Montenegro.
