Cultivation of Maljevac landfill and eco-reconstruction of TE Pljevlja are in focus of EPCG’s activities

Podgorica, (MINA) – The project related to the continuation of usage and phased re-cultivation of the Maljevac landfill, ecological reconstruction of the Thermal Power Plant (TE) Pljevlja and passing the law on climate protection are some of the activities which will be in the focus of the Electroprivreda Power company’s (EPCG) activities in the field of environmental protection.

In regard to chapter 27, this company stated that they have been working on raising ecological awareness among their employees.

“We also work on building ecological awareness in regard to implementation of the legal and other regulations and informing all the employees about the need for respecting them, preserving natural energy resources, as well as the awareness in regard to recognition and prevention the occurrence of possible negative effects to the environment and water management”, EPCG told Mina.

Regarding TE Pljevlja, EPCG stated that the work of this facility is limited to total 20,000 working hours in the period between January 1 2018 and 31 December 2023.

“With the view of carrying out the project of ecological reconstruction of the first bloc of TE Pljevlja and designing the best technical and technological solution for the future work of the facility, we signed in March last year the agreement with the Steag Energy Services Gmbh for creation of preliminary design and the Study on estimated effects on the environment, worth €664,290”, EPCG stated.

They announced that during the spring this year the call for tenders for the main project design and carrying out the construction works are expected.

The total value of the ecological reconstruction is estimated to €40 million.

They have also reached a decision on carrying out the project of continuation of usage and phased cultivation of the landfill Maljevac, estimated to €21,9 million.

Regarding the challenges in the field of environmental protection this company will face once Montenegro joins the EU, EPCG stated that in regard to that TE Pljevlja will have to respect limited emission, envisaged by the law on industrial emissions.

“Furthermore, a law on climate protection is to be passed that determines the system of policies and measures, strategies and action plans and other mechanisms and instruments which contribute to law-carbon development and development resistant to climate changes”, EPCG added.
