Students learn about fake news and ethical journalism

Podgorica, (MINA) – First and second grade students of the Podgorica Grammar School participated in a workshop on fake news and ethical journalism at the school’s Volunteering Club on Wednesday.

The workshop was the first in a series of events, which the NGO 35mm, a member of the Civic Alliance, will carry out in cooperation with the Mina news agency and the NGO Nomen during the project of Dealing with Ethics and Fake News, funded by the EU Delegation in Montenegro as part of the Media Professionalism Program.

Professor at the Podgorica Faculty of Political Science and one of the founders of the Novi Sad School of Journalism Dubravka Valic spoke about the history of fake news, principles and tools for identifying them and examples of violation of journalists’ ethics.

“The high school students, 47 of them, had an opportunity to get introduced to the topic of fake news and ethical journalism, but also to obtain additional information through the informational and educational materials that they received,” the Civic Alliance said in a press release.

According to the NGO, the purpose of the project is to improve the quality of ethical reporting in Montenegro, in parallel with increasing the quality and diversity of media contents produced by the Mina news agency, which is distributed by various media, raise the level of media literacy and provide practical knowledge for media professionals.
