Sarajevo, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Majlinda Bregu has said that the RCC is ready to embark on any challenges if supported by its regional and European partners.
At the RCC Annual Meeting held during the high-level meetings of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), she said that 2018 had been a dynamic year, adding that the Council was ready to continue at the same pace next year.
“We, at the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) are ready and keen to embark on any challenges ahead of us but we cannot do it without the full support of our regional and European partners, as we don’t need to lose time in order to find it again”, said Bregu.
According to a press release issued by the RCC, she said that it would be difficult to reconcile the region both economically and socially without joint efforts focusing on resolution of bilateral disputes.
“The price of stagnation and postponing further the decision on the opening of accession negotiations with Albania and Republic of North Macedonia is, in short, a risk. Any positive moment can precipitate easily, if the membership perspective would continue to kick the can down the road,” said Bregu.
She argued that there was no better time to start than now, especially as two SEECP members were taking over a joint Chairmanship of the Berlin Process, which will enhance region’s ownership of the process.
The RCC’s Annual Report for period 2018–2019 and organisation’s Strategy and Work Programme 2020–2022 were endorsed at the Annual Meeting and will be forwarded to the SEECP Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs for final adoption.
Bregu also presented the main findings of the Balkan Barometer 2019 edition, sharing what citizens and businesses in the region think about current situation in their countries. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
