Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a Subcommittee meeting focusing on trade that the progress Montenegro had made in the field in trade, industry, customs, and taxation would help the country increase the number of open and closed chapters in the coming period.
The Government’s General Secretariat says in a press release that the progress made in the negotiating chapters on free movement of goods, taxation, enterprise and industrial policy, customs union, and external relations was presented at the EU-Montenegro Subcommittee meeting on trade, industry, customs, taxes and cooperation with other Candidate Countries.
The Deputy Chief Negotiator for Chapters of EU acquis, Marko Mrdak, reiterated that Montenegro was firmly committed to joining the European Union.
“I hope we will improve the statistics from currently 31 open and three provisionally closed chapters, given that the situation is rather good in this Subcommittee, in which we have opened all chapters, one of which is provisionally closed. I believe that we will define the future steps aimed at closing perhaps another chapter by the next Subcommittee meeting,” said Mrdak.
Deputy Head of Montenegro Unit at the Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Barbara Jesus Gimeno, said that both Montenegro and the European Union had done a lot of work towards the achievement of their common goal – the EU accession.
She underlined the importance of the Subcommittee and the progress made in the field of free movement of workers, trade, economic development, entrepreneurship and taxation, which were vital to the collection of funds and meeting the expectations of Montenegrin citizens.
According to Jesus Gimeno, it is of great importance for both people and products to enter the country legally and for taxes to be collected in the proper way.
“We would like encourage you to follow that course in the domestic market and make Montenegro even more competitive,” said Jesus Gimeno.
