More unemployed people over fifty

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Director of the Unemployment Office Suljo Mustafic has said that there are 41,840 registered unemployed people in Montenegro at the end of the year, adding that more than a half of them are women, while the share of the unemployed older people, over the age of 50, has increased.

He said at a press conference that there were 10,000 registered unemployed people fewer than last year, while the unemployment rate had declined from the last year’s 22.09 percent to 18.03 percent.

Mustafic said that 58.48 percent of the total number of unemployed people were women, while the share of the unemployed young people under the age of 25 had decreased.

He said that 8,830 people with higher education were jobless, including 286 people with specialist and master’s degrees and 15 people with PhDs.

According to a survey of the Statistical Office, the unemployment rate decreased by one percent year-on-year to 14.1 percent in this year’s third quarter.

“Employers advertised a total of 29,030 vacancies through the Employment Office,,” Mustafic said, adding that most of the people had found employment in the hospitality, tourism, services and civil engineering sectors.
