Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – At today’s elections held at the General Assembly of the United Nations, Montenegro was elected as a member of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for a period between 2020 and 2022.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says in a press release that, as an ECOSOC member, Montenegro will be committed to fulfilling the remit of this body and supporting its proactive role in the field of sustainable development.
The press release says that the ECOSOC is one of the six principal bodies of the UN, in charge of the economic and social policies, as a central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and formulating policy recommendations to the member states and the United Nations system.
“The role of ECOSOC in indentifying new challenges, promoting innovations and achieving a balanced integration of the three pillars of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental has been strengthened in the last ten years,” the press release says.
