Montenegro is half way in meeting requests for chapters 23 and 24

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro is half way in regard to the reforms ensuing from the chapter 23-Judiciary and Fundamental Rights and 24- Justice, Freedom and Security, said British Ambassador to Montenegro Alisson Kemp.

In an interview to Vijesti daily, she said that Montenegro practically completed the process of adopting the legal frameworks and institutions reforms, which are necessary for strengthening the rule of law and fundamental freedoms.

Kemp added that Montenegrin results in the field of rule of law are becoming the main criteria for measuring the country’s progress.

Asked if she believed that Montenegro would be ready to join the EU by 2025, she said that it completely depended on Montenegro, and that it would be a challenge.

Commenting on the UK’s role in Montenegro, following its leaving the EU, Kemp said that as a constructive, active and engaged member of the Union, Great Britain supported reforms in Montenegro and would continue supporting it while leaving the EU.

Asked if she noticed the elements of captured institutions in Montenegro, she responded that she had worked in many countries in transition, and that she understood why the Commission’s strategy for the Western Balkans from February last year said that the elements of captured states are noticed in all the Western Balkans’ countries.
