Podgorica, (MINA) – Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Pavle Radulovic has stated that he believes that the environmental impact study for the Bar-Boljare highway did not involve diverting the course of the Tara River at the highway construction site, but that the incident has been caused by the contractor, which he said will be penalized.
The Minister stated this in Parliament on Friday, answering a question by DF MP Branko Radulovic about the actions that will be taken to prevent destruction to the Tara River caused by the highway construction works.
He explained that the highway construction project includes an environmental impact study, which provides for environmental protection measures, adding that the document was subject to an extensive public hearing.
The Minister said that he is positive that the experts who prepared the environmental impact study and the project did not plan for environmental hazard to the Tara River.
“I believe that this is a violation by the contractor and it will be penalized. The Tara River will remain ‘the tear of Europe’ and there is no alternative solution,” Radulovic was adamant.
