Government and opposition disagree about ‘Envelope affair’

Podgorica, (MINA) – The true intention of the sponsors of the parliamentary debate on the ‘Envelope Affair’ is to deepen the citizens’ discontent, the ruling DPS argues, while opposition MPs believe that the session would not have taken place if it hadn’t been for the protests and pressure from the EU.

The extraordinary session, attended by Supreme State Prosecutor Ivica Stankovic, was scheduled on Thursday by Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajovic, based on a request from the Social Democratic Party signed by 28 opposition MPs.

The agenda of the debate was also backed by the DPS MPs, arguing that they will try to avoid debates, while the MPs of the Bosniak Party and the Liberal Party abstained from vote.

DPS MP Nikola Rakocevic stated that the DPS MPs will participate in the debate even if they believe that the proposed conclusions are an obvious political manifesto.

SDP MP Ranko Krivokapic noted that the Parliament session would not have taken place if it hadn’t been for the civic protests and the EU’s influence.

Rakocevic accused the opposition of trying to overthrow the government by undermining and trying to destabilize the country.

“The DPS is not avoiding responsibility for what has happened. We invite all of you to follow the example of the DPS and to respect state institutions,” he said.

Rakocevic recalled that the Democratic Bloc (DF) was supporting Katnic and praising his world while he was arresting DPS officials.

He underlined that Djukanovic enjoys unreserved support of everyone at the DPS.

DF MP Nebojsa Medojevic said that Montenegro has been “kidnapped by a criminal structure, namely the DPS”.

“Instead of Katnic questioning Djukanovic, it is Djukanovic who is questioning Katnic and Stankovic”, Medojevic argued.

SDP MP Rasko Konjevic accused the ruling party MPs of having lied about the ‘Envelope Affair’.

SD MP Boris Mugosa, on the other hand, noted that his party is giving absolute support to the state authorities.

“We have a reaction of state institutions and the prosecution authorities have responded promptly. What is the point of discussing it? Are we going to tell them who to arrest or is it done in TV shows?” Mugosa stated. Longer version of article is available on a link MINA ENGLISH SERVIS
