Bankruptcies affect the clients

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Banking Ombudsman Halil Kalac has said that introduction of bankruptcy proceedings for Atlas banka and Invest banka Montenegro (IBM) had a negative effect on their clients, adding that the fact that they still have confidence in other banks is encouraging.

“The bankruptcy proceedings for two banks have had a negative effect on the confidence of clients, primarily the clients of these two banks, who don’t believe in their recovery,” Kalac told Mina-business agency.

He added that it was encouraging that many clients of the banks undergoing the bankruptcy proceedings had shown confidence in other banks, by having deposited their guaranteed deposits.

Kalac said that the clients of the remaining 13 banks had not contacted the banking ombudsman to express concern or lack of confidence in these financial companies.

He said that the operation of these 13 banks had been successful, adding that it was evident from their financial results.

“This indicates that the systemic conditions allow for the successful operation of the banks, and that they are very favorable, which is confirmed by the interest of investors in the Montenegrin banking sector,” said Kalac.
